I've gotten all my footage for the car documentary. Shooting went really well, and I'm busy editing. The following clip is not an into, even though it's titled so. It will come after the intro, and serves to provide context. Some of my narration is a little low, and will be easy to fix.
Note: This is not really finished. It will be a good while before I get any sort of rough cut together, but I just wanted to post something.
This second clip is of my dad decorating the birthday cake. It's also not finished, but i wanted to post it just for fun.

Nice start, Jason. Your voice-over works well and the first clip is very tight, cannot think of anything to change. The second clip is a bit weaker and I suggest cutting the off-focus shots. I can see from these clips that you have a strong sense of style(a la our pal Michael Moore) with a feeling of nostaglic americana. It's good intro material. Look forward to seeing where it goes from here.
It's none of my business since I just stumbled across this site but in the first clip I'd suggest not starting with "Meet so-and-so."
It's hackneyed and usually redundant since the audience is meeting the person by their very inclusion in the story.
both clips show a lot of personality, the music and the pace really helps to make the characters likable. I already love both your parents.
I love the cake clip, but I agree with our instructor in saying it's not as tight as the first clip.
However, I'd like to comment more on the fact that another stranger to 366K has wandered into our blogging midst and decided to comment. It's bizarre that this keeps happening, but I like it - the porn lady was hilarious, and this guy "John" (is that even your real name?!?!) had something useful to offer.
Well done, John, for finding your way into our domain.
what porn lady?
